TRACK bY TRACK

Track "Glucose"

..let us go for a tea cup ride
across the walking bridge
my cotton candy kiosk bride
let's kiss let's kiss let's kiss..

My teeth hurt

The track is placed in a bittersweet atmosphere of pleasure and pain. The idea is playing with the idea compelling scent of sweet stuff attracting clouds of insects. The fairground metapher in the lyrics seemed a perfect setup to use motives of historical playbills.

Track "Freeze"

..we've come a long way
through bizarre landscapes of thoughs
fairground of joy
traffic jams of doubts..

White Deserts and White Cities

The video for "Freeze" is an abstract journey through freezing landscapes of thoughts. The title of the song inspired me to travel back in time to the days of the Scott Expedition to the south pole.

Track "Hush"

..hush hush
do not wake my love
now reclining
please do not wake my love ..

It came from the deep sea

The long one shot of the skyscrapers were filmed during a tourist boat trip on the Huangpu River, Shanghai. I was looking for a way to express the threatening and terrorizing feeling that sometimes gets hold of you on a monday morning in a overcrowded business metropole. The hostile enviroment with a sky of giant jelly fish seemed a perfect match to the sensitive lyrics of "Hush".

Track "Through All Time"

..please don't burn me
through all time
please don't burry me in time
you do it like the stars
hypnotize me from the past ..
The bright light of a dead star

The main part of the video is based on the beautiful NASA shot of the sun. It's a loop and the "tape rewind" effect makes it even more obvious. I added subtitles as they are being used on DVD's for the hearing impaired. Subtitles like "Emotional Chorus Part I" create a strange distance to the music itself. Like a very strong emotion that it's being analyzed from the outside.

Track "Nguyen"

..mein kleiner Nguyen, schlafe ruhig
und träume von der bunten Blume,
und nicht vom Eisendrachen, der Deinen
kleinen Freund gefressen hat..
Lullaby of a vietnamese Mother

This song is part of the Virtual Guest Star Concept of the Band. The singer Claudia Metzner performance in a east german TV show as back as far as 1968. The band plays along with the singer. The original track was written by Matthias Purfürst (my father) who is playing the guitar

Track "Look After Me"

..look after me
for my eyes
can not see..
Window to your Soul

This video probably needs some epilepsy warnings. It's strictly synchronized to the four to the floor bass drum. The windows are actually based on photographies I did at a friends flat in Harlem, New York City in 2008.

Track "Idiot Glee Tune"

..I turned down the devil
I took the deep blue sea
that blurry deep sea dancer
in concret shoes that's me..

Journey in to the Subconciousness

An elevator takes you deep down into the abyss of the subconciouss where strange creatures live in the sunken ruins of conney island.

Track "Hug Party"

..Oh, my love you look
overfucked and underhugged
Oh, my love you look
out of luck, let me give you a hug..

Let me give you a hug

The lyrics of the song work on many different layers. The freaked out kids seemed to fit perfectly into the bent and torn world of Hug Party. It's a bizarre journey from innocense and happiness into the realms of excess and drugs.

Track "Vaporware"

..It's been raining cats and drugs
for days
you've got everything
you thought you need
like a cake into your face..

Last Exit Brooklyn

This video is based on a pure and intense oneshot. The waterlevel is slowly rising only to reveal an exit sign. By the time the screen is completely under water the exit sign is completely visible.

Track "Fireworks"

..Spirits are high on the slope
the band still plays passionately
the skyline slowly slides unter water
soon "we all are nearer my god to thee"

..a ship is sinking in your head
the shit is sinkining in unsaid..

The fine art of drowning slowly

This video became quite claustrophobic and dark. The bowels of a sunken ship floating in the deep sea. A blind passenger is desperately fighting for his life.

Track "Bottle Rocket"

..through paper storms and firewalls
through textclouds and CMYK skies
we slowly take off from the parking lot
and I could the seconds down
T-1 good byes ..

The great escape

This beautiful one shot piece was filmed by Elisa Purfürst in a big parking garage in Berlin. We combined the music with the video only to realize how amazingly well they go with each other.

Track "Mockumentary"

..we could have done magic
for a moment this world
needs some magic stuff
all that could have been
instead of all this mocking up..

In search for the lost time

This video works with two main parts. The verse is based on a massive typography that is in sync with the syllables of the "flow of consciousness" like lyrics. The bridge and chorus parts are a journey into the externalized memory of all of us: impressions of beaches and families.

Track "Lamenting Lovers"

..I fall apart
all wrong I knew by heart
I jump out of my skin
to come undone
before I am done ..
Anatomy of a Lover

The anatomical depictions of the human body create a strong contradictive backdrop for a desperate love song. The abstract drawings on top of the images gives these universal images a certain individual perspective - like feelings that all share and still can encounter only personally.

Track "Last Sight"

..I love you at last sight
though to hate you
was the far stronger tie..

Swimming pool full of Puzzle Pieces

This video is supposed to work very much as a intense light source on stage. It's based on some kind of diary / scrapbook collage of virtual memories.

Track "Transient Guest"

..I want you to know
but the words they stick in my throat
what if you are just
transient guest ..
The writing on the wall

The visual plays with the idea of not being able to say anything and being in a room full of unarticulated thoughts.

Special thanks to Thomas Pusinelli for taming the sea gulls.
Track "Laughing Gas Station"

..at the laughing gas station
we are laughing our heads off
at the laughing gas station
daddy stops when the kids cried enough ..
Stranded on a traffic island

This is the road movie moment in the program. An seemingly endless journey through the night with fragmented traffic signs like through a broken lens.
